Hiking The New Hope Overlook

I signed up for another Meetup group hike.  I never know what I am going to see on these hikes, I am always excited for the new adventure.  I grabbed my camera and headed toward Jordan Lake.  I will be quoting a site I signed up for AllTrails.com.  It's free.  If you are at all interested in area hiking trails you should check out the site.

"New Hope Overlook Blue Route is a 2.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Moncure, North Carolina that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash."

Dogs are allowed on the trail. I did not take Brodie. The hikes are at a fast clip with this group so it may be difficult to drag him; literally along. Brodie and I go on 3-mile walks in our neighborhood. After about 3 miles he keeps looking at me as if to say "can we go home now?"
Ann was our fearless leader for this hike.  Her goal was to guide us about 5.5 miles around the trail. She did a great job. I never know where I am going on these hikes so I am thankful for those who do:-)

"New Hope Trail is our newest and most strenuous hike. The trail begins near the bathrooms at the boat ramp. The red loop is 5.4 miles and the blue loop is 2.7 miles in length. The red loop includes the blue loop. This is the most challenging trail with several steep hills."
I am not sure if we were on the blue or the red trail or if it was both. There were many steep hills so it must have been the blue.

Hikers will enjoy sweeping views of the lake, mature hardwood forests, groves of mountain laurel, lush creek crossings and a variety of wildflowers and ferns.

The dreaded tick.  I have learned to use my bug spray.

Nice open trail

There were some lovely views of the lake
Another great hike with a great meetup group.
If you have the chance get out and go on a hike.

  1. I love New Hope Overlook! It was one of my first hikes in the area and it's such a nice trail. If you did 5.5 miles then you probably did both the red and blue trails. They form a figure 8, so you'd start on the blue trail, connect to red, and connect back to blue.

    1. I just follow along like a little puppy and have no idea where I am. Kinda nice though, because then I can just enjoy the sights:-)

    1. I love to hike too. Nothing like being out in nature except for those darn ticks and snakes.
