Exploring North Carolina "Patterson's Mill Country Store" in Durham NC

Image
Exploring North Carolina. My visit to  Patterson's Mill Country Store  in Durham North Carolina. You can see from the sign above that this store was established in 1973.  The feel of the store is one of being founded at least a hundred years ago.  When you go inside you are greeted with antiques, collectibles, old books and memorabilia plus they even have penny candy. Take a look at all the goodies. I remember the rotary phones. When I was very young, I recall we even had a party line.  Many times I would pick up the phone to find someone else talking.  The hand crank phone was before my time.  You can find both of these phones at the Country Store.  Yummy candy. Maggie would love this doll house! My Favorite part of the country store is the old pharmacy and turn of the century Dr's office. I can remember my dad and his many stories about Castor Oil.  He made it sound like Castor Oil coul...

Restaurant Review The Pie Hole in Durham North Carolina

Image
It was Pi (3.14) day March 14, 2018.  Erica called and said, "Mom it is Pi day," and of course I thought she meant pie day, "let's go get some pie."  I said, "sure let's go!"  Of course, she made fun of me when I told her I thought it was pie, not pi.  In my defense, there is a National Pie Day which was Jan. 23rd I just had the wrong date:-) Where should we go to get a slice of pie?  We decided to check out The Pie Hole in Durham.   The Pie Hole  in Durham NC. The Pie Hole was established in 2011 in California and came to Durham 2017. Here is a quote from their website.... "We bake from scratch, by hand, using only the highest quality ingredients. Our pie is served by the slice, individual sized savory pies, whole pies to order, and a signature, specialty coffee program." "Our menu changes seasonally and is subject to change daily." The Pie Hole We decided to go all out and try a savory and a sweet pie. ...

Town Hall Burger and Beer in Durham NC

Image
It's time to try a new restaurant.  I was invited by my friend Cindy to  Town Hall Burger and Beer  in Durham.  Let's go.... After having a look at the menu I decided to get a classic cheeseburger.  Here is their description... " Certified Angus Beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion & choice of cheese served on brioche." I also tried out the fried pickles  with jalapeño ranch. The burger was delicious.  I loved it. Fried pickles were really good too.  The jalapeño ranch was a bit too spicy for me.   I would probably go with plain ranch next time.   Being a wine girl I know very little about beer.  Town Hall seems to have a nice selection of beer.  Here is their list... Beer List ... They serve wine and Bottled Boylans Sodas too. The Bar. Cindy and I plan to go back to check out the bar.. Town Hall Burger and Beer Menu   I loved my burger.  Looking at his pictur...

Claws Mini-Faire Event at Doyle's Vineyard in Durham NC

Doyle's Vineyard  in Durham was hosting an event they called Claws Mini-Faire.  Here is how they described it on their Facebook page. "Join us for our biggest event of the year! CLAWS will be hosting a mini-renaissance style festival at Doyle's Vineyard."   Claw's Inc  rehabilitates wildlife and rescues exotic pets.  For this event, they were displaying several birds of prey and releasing a few of the rehabilitated birds back into the wild.   Below are a few photos of some of the beautiful birds.... We also enjoyed sword fighting demonstrations put on by  Sword Conservatory. (Caleb and I with a very nice knight) We watched a show put on by the League of  Extraordinary Belly Dancers.   What a group of very nice and talented ladies. It was great being with my family at this event.  We enjoy good wine, entertainment and of course seeing the birds fly to freedom. Thanks for a great time, yet again, Doyle's ...
