The South Academy Street Mural in Downtown Cary North Carolina

Image
As you know, I love murals.  I found this one on South Academy Street in Cary North Carolina.  I searched and searched to find the history behind this painting, but I had no luck.  In lieu of the history of the mural, I will give you a couple of historical notes from Wikipedia  "In 1750, Cary began as a settlement called Bradford's Ordinary. Allison Francis "Frank" Page is credited with founding the town.  Page was a Wake County farmer and lumberman." Happy Travels! KathieyV

Interesting NC Tidbits...The Town of Buffalo NC is at the Bottom of Lake Lure.

Image
A few weeks ago I took a trip to beautiful Lake Lure located in my state of NC.  Little did I know that there was a town called Buffalo under the Lake Lure waters.   I met a lady at a local restaurant that told me the town remains as it was, completely preserved under the water, an underwater ghost town.  On the Lake Lure pontoon boat adventure I took, I was told that Buffalo was burned to the ground just prior to the flooding. I went online to see what facts I could find about the town of Buffalo. Buffalo was a farming and mining community.  The population was approximately 150 people.  There was a church called Whiteside Valley Church of 1918 that had about 98 members.   The dam was built to generate electricity in the early 1900's, and just after the completion of the dam the town was flooded.    From what I could find online much of the town was torn down and relocated as were parts of the church.  The graves in the small grav...

The Quarter Horse Bar and Arcade in Durham NC

Image
(Logo from their website) The Quarter Horse Bar and Arcade  in Downtown Durham. Cindy and I were exploring in Durham again and she mentioned The Quarter Horse Bar and Arcade.  She had been once before and said it was fun.  I had never heard of it so I said "lets go!"..... Quote from their site... "Quarter Horse Bar & Arcade is a private club with an amazing collection of classic arcade and pinball machines." When you arrive you are greeted by a staff member.  He or she will have you fill out a membership form.  You have to be over 21 to be a member.  That being said they do also have some kid friendly hours. A few hours on Saturday and Sunday.  The kiddos have to be accompanied by an adult.  Check their website for hours. When you walk in you will see a nice bar and dozens of pinball machines and games.  What fun.  I could have stayed for hours.  The games brought back memories of ...

A Visit to the Raleigh Rum Company in Raleigh NC...

Image
A couple of weeks ago Cindy and I decided to go on an adventure.  I searched the internet for things to do and came across the  Raleigh Rum Company  in Raleigh NC.  They have free tastings and tours every Saturday so off we went.   If you asked me what I know about rum, the answer would be next to nothing.  The only thing I do know is that I love tropical drinks that contain rum.   Here is a quote from their website.... "Born of our love for craft beer and cocktails; we marveled at all of the amazing craft beer in NC.  However, in January 2014 we looked around at the liquor shelf and couldn't find nearly as many options for the liquor end. So we decided to help fix that and Raleigh Rum Company was born." They have a  white and a spiced rum....  Tours and tastings every Saturday at 2pm.  It is free.  Click  here  for details and directions.  We were treated to drinks and a mini lesson on th...

Celebrity Dairy Open Barn Event

Image
I have been to Celebrity Dairy three times for their open barn events.  So much fun.  The location is beautiful and the baby goats adorable.  They are open this weekend but sadly I will not be able to attend.  That won't stop me from going back and looking at my old blog posts and remembering the joy of my prior visits.  I will stop by their website and see what is happening.  Join me.... A quote from  their site in regard to an open barn event... "We'll have lots of kids by then, and chances are pretty good that more than one birth will occur during our Open Barn. No matter what the weather, the action occurs in the barn, and under a roof. Come dressed for the weather. If you're hungry, we'll have food and beverages available in the Inn." Celebrity Dairy I just had a wonderful time exploring Celebrity Dairy via my blog. It is not only a farm but an Inn.  You can stay the night and enjoy a country breakfast and s...

Hiking at the Linville Falls Visitors Center....The Lower Trail

Image
I have done this hike a couple of times.  Always fun.  I think it is called the  Linville Falls Plunge Basin Trail.  It is the trail just left of the Linville Falls Visitors Center.  It is a more difficult trail then the one to the right.  Both are lovely. Here is some info on that hike found on  Asheville Trails Linville Falls Plunge Basin Trail "The hike departs from the Linville Falls visitor center, located off the Blue Ridge Parkway at MP 316 ( view maps and driving directions ), hanging a left in front of the visitor center. The trail splits almost immediately at a signed junction: the Dugger Falls Trail veers left, and the Plunge Basin Overlook and Gorge Floor Trail turns right. The hike follows signs to the overlook, trailing eastbound through a forest filled with leathery-leafed rhododendron." Erica be careful! Below is some info from   Hike Western NC .   Here is what they had to say.... Linville Falls -...
