The Wine Feed is the exception.  There was plenty of parking on site. We received a detailed description of each wine we tasted. You know I love events, and the Wine Feed has a good amount of tastings and events. The Wine Feed Calendar Quote from their website... World Market: My Favorite Place to Buy Wine

Image
I enjoy a nice glass of wine.  To me, it is comfort food right up there with coffee. I love to visit wineries, enjoy a tasting and take home a bottle of their wine. There is not always that opportunity to venture off to a winery, and in those times I have a go-to place to stock up on wine, that place is  World Market. There are 13 World Market locations in North Carolina.   They carry wine from all over the world and even some North Carolina Wine. Here is a quote from their website. "Always affordable, our selection of wine, imported beer, champagne, sangria,  cocktails and aperitifs create the perfect wine night or microbrew barbecue". The reason I love World Market for wine is that they have a huge selection and they have incredible sales.  You get a discount if you buy six bottles.  I usually end up getting six bottles for around $55.00.  That is a great price.  I was a member of WineC, and although it was fun to g...

Curtain Calls and Wine Wishes Oct 2018

Image
I love the performing arts, and I love wine.  I thought I would look ahead into Sept and find some shows and wine events in my area of North Carolina that I would like to attend.  I wish I could attend every event but as my mom used to say "If wishes were horses then beggars would ride," another quote she used to throw around was "champagne taste on a beer budget."  I can dream though and sometimes dreams do come true. Curtain Calls *Sept 28-Oct 14 you can see  The Revolutionists  at the Raleigh Little Theatre in Raleigh NC *Oct 7 the NC Symphony is playing  "Star Wars, A New Hope"  in Raleigh NC *Oct 16-21 at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh NC you can see "In the Heights" *Oct 21 at DPAC in Durham NC-  Jeremy Camp and Matthew West. -Wine and Food Wishes *Oct 13- there is a  Wine Cheese and Chocolate Festival  in Raleigh NC *Oct 14 is  Sip and Savor A Wine Food and Music Experience  at DPAC in Dur...

September is North Carolina Wine Month: Let's Visit Shelton Vineyards in Dobson NC

Image
In North Carolina, September is Wine Month.  In honor of this celebration, I thought it would be fun to go back into my blog history and reshare some of my posts on NC vineyards and wineries.   I will be sharing a post every week in September.    Let's start with Shelton Vineyards in Dobson NC. Shelton Vineyards   I have been to Shelton Vineyards twice.  The first time was in Oct 2012. Check out my post, click the link below. My Visit to Shelton Vineyards in Shelton NC Here is a quote from their website, "Located in the Yadkin Valley American Viticultural Area, the vineyard shares a similar climate and growing season to that of some of the best wine growing regions in Europe.  The vineyard is one of the largest on the East Coast."   " On the estate, several varieties of vitas vinifera grapes are grown:  Cabernet Franc,Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Malbec, Tannat,  Petit Verdot, Rieslin...

A Visit to Burntshirt Vineyards in Hendersonville NC

Image
It was my final day of my mini-vacation.  I had climbed the stairs to the top of Chimney Rock, I had pontooned beautiful Lake Lure, and I had stayed at the lovely Esmeralda Inn.  Anytime I take a trip I do my best to visit a local winery, and I had been remiss in my tradition on this trip.   I could just go home, but that would be crazy if there were a local winery to explore. Well as luck would have it not far off my journey there was a winery. I consulted Google and plotted my course to  Burntshirt Vineyards in Hendersonville NC.  First I wanted to know where the name came from.  Here is a quote from their website... " Mountain lore has it that back in the day farmers would burn their fields to clear the land on Burntshirt Mountain for planting. They tossed their shirts in the fire for good luck and the fields yielded a bountiful crop!" I did not have a lot of time to tour or visit due to my pending long drive back home, but I did manage the wine...

Rock of Ages Winery in Hurdle Mills NC

Image
Did you know that September is North Carolina Wine Month?  That's all the motivation I needed to take a drive to a winery I had heard about but never visited.  I set off for a little over an hour drive to Hurdle Mills NC to visit  Rock of Ages Winery    On my route, I saw beautiful old barns, rolling hills, and farmland.  I drove through one of my favorite towns Hillsborough NC.  There were a few slow-moving vehicles on the journey.  Instead of trying to pass them I took the time to relax and enjoy the sights of smells of the countryside. Before I knew it, I had arrived.  There it was the Rock of Ages Winery.  What a lovely building. There is nothing more inviting then a beautiful door. The building itself is beautiful. The stone and wood create a welcoming setting.  I met the owners, Kevin and Kim Moore.  They took the time to meet and greet everyone.   They know their wine and seem to enjoy sharing t...
