Taking a Walk in Downtown Cary North Carolina

Image
It was a beautiful winter day.  A perfect day for a stroll in downtown Cary NC. View from the  Downtown Park .  The  Cary Arts Center .  There is a lot going on at the Arts Center from shows to classes.  Check out their  events calendar .  I love the  Mayton Inn  in downtown Cary.  I have been many times.  I have not stayed at the Inn, but I hear that the rooms are lovely.  I have been for lunch at the  Verandah , I have taken a  Skillpop  class held in one of their meeting rooms, and enjoyed a Christmas Market held at the Inn. Downtown Cary Sculptures... Churches... I was excited to find a mural...  Not sure what this is but it is interesting:-) I will leave you with good advice I found on my walk around town.   We should all be doing this. Get out and explore.  If you ever near downtown Cary I suggest you take a stroll. Happy Travels!...

Remembering The Piedmont Farm Tour

Image
Time for the 21st annual Piedmont Farm Tour.  I have been on this tour one other time, and I was excited to check out a few farms this year.  The tour was scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, so we went out both days.  There were 38 farms on the tour.  We were able to visit four of the farms.   The first farm on our list was a buffalo farm in Roxboro NC. Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm   As we arrived, we saw a herd of buffalo grazing in an open field.  What an amazing sight. The storm clouds were moving in as we drove up the road to check in for our adventure.   We made it to the gazebo just in time as the rain began to pour down.   No worries though they had both food and drink under the shelter.  We enjoyed a buffalo burger while sitting beside a lovely lake.  It ended up being a very peaceful lunch.  (Caleb wanted nothing to do with the buffalo burger.  He had chips:-) Caleb and Erica ventured...

How Much Does the Largest Watermelon Weigh at Watermelon Day at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh North Carolina?

Image
July 26, 2018, is Watermelon Day at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh North Carolina.  I love watermelon and the farmers market so I decided to go.  According to the flyer, the event would include a "Largest Watermelon" contest with cash prizes, free watermelon slices, and recipes, and the NC Watermelon Queen would even be there.  First off I stopped to enjoy the free watermelon slices that were being handed out to the visitors. The watermelon was sweet and delicious. I decided to do an informal survey.  I was curious as to who likes to put salt on their watermelon.  Everyone I asked said they enjoyed salt on their watermelon.  I do too.  I wonder if that is a southern thing.  My dad was from TN and loved salt on his watermelon.  My mom was from PA, and she found the idea disgusting.  I found a quote on Baking Bites as to why some of us like salt on our watermelon.   "Salt makes watermelon taste sweeter by creating...

Restaurant Review La Farm Bakery in Cary North Carolina

Image
My first experience with  La Farm Bakery  in Cary NC was several years ago.  My daughters decided to take me to La Farm for a Mother's Day adventure. Here is a review of our experience. We drove up to the parking lot and it was packed. A full parking lot is always a good sign.  The bakery is lovely.  It has a welcoming rustic feel. They provide indoor and outdoor seating. Everything looked so good.... Here is a quote from their website "The La Farm Family welcomes you into our shop and into our kitchen,  where we take pleasure in sharing our recipes and our secrets.  Watch us in forming dough, toasting granola, decorating tarte aux fraises.  Then taste our artisan breads, tarts, pastries, sandwiches and  specialty products and experience the taste hundreds of years of French cuisine." You walk up and order your selections at the counter and then they bring the food to your table. Just what is B...

The Birth Place of Pepsi, New Bern North Carolina

Image
Did you know that New Bern North Carolina was the birth place of Pepsi Cola?   I did not.  On my trip to New Bern I had the pleasure of visiting The  Pepsi Store . (Note: In italics you will find quotes from various sites about Pepsi) "The Birthplace of Pepsi, located in historic New Bern, North Carolina, is the actual site where Pepsi-Cola was first invented by Caleb Bradham in his pharmacy in 1898" "On August 28, 1898, Bradham renamed his drink “Pepsi-Cola." He believed the drink was more than a refreshment but a “healthy” cola, aiding in digestion, getting its roots from the word dyspepsia, meaning indigestion." The Pepsi Store Website   The store has a nice bar area when you can enjoy a Pepsi beverage.... 1906 -  Pepsi gets another logo change, the third in eight years. The modified script logo is created with the slogan, "The Original Pure Food Drink." The Pepsi Store Website    "Mountain Dew  (stylized as  Mtn De...
