Restaurant Review; Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant in New Bern NC

On this particular day, I have walked up and down the lovely streets of historic New Bern.  I have photographed churches, Victorian-style homes, and the occasional New Bern Bear.  After all that walking in the hot sun the big question is where I should go to enjoy a nice lunch and cold glass of wine?  I wanted to be on the water, and I had heard the food was good at Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant, so I decided to give it a try.

We feature an elegant yet casual atmosphere and three distinct dining venues: our downstairs great room, our private upstairs dining room, and our picturesque outdoor waterfront dining area. Persimmons focuses on modern cuisine made from locally-sourced ingredients by our award-winning chef and hosting a variety of special events with waterfront dining, fresh food, and the friendliest service around".

Persimmons offer both indoor and outdoor seating to their guests.  I wanted to sit outside, but it was much too windy for them to put out the umbrellas that they usually provide and I did not want to sit directly in the sun.  I was given a lovely seat indoors where I had a view of the water.

Now to look over the menu.  Someone at the B&B where I stayed told me the Brussel sprouts were delicious.  I am not usually a fan of Brussel sprouts, but I was curious.  I told my waitress that I was not crazy about them and she said that these were different from the standard sprouts.  She told me the chef prepares them with pork belly, goat cheese, bourbon honey, and smoked sea salt.  She had me at bourbon honey.  I decided to give them a try.  They were absolutely delicious.  I also ordered the Carolina Crab Cakes from the small plates portion of the menu.  The crab cakes come with a lovely salad.  All in all, I would have to give my meal a very high score the entire meal was exquisite.




I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant.  I look forward to going again sometime.  If you find yourself in New Bern and you want a unique and delicious meal, I suggest you check them out.  I recommend you get reservations.

Interesting NC Tidbits...The Town of Buffalo NC is at the Bottom of Lake Lure.

A few weeks ago I took a trip to beautiful Lake Lure located in my state of NC.  Little did I know that there was a town called Buffalo under the Lake Lure waters.   I met a lady at a local restaurant that told me the town remains as it was, completely preserved under the water, an underwater ghost town.  On the Lake Lure pontoon boat adventure I took, I was told that Buffalo was burned to the ground just prior to the flooding. I went online to see what facts I could find about the town of Buffalo. Buffalo was a farming and mining community.  The population was approximately 150 people.  There was a church called Whiteside Valley Church of 1918 that had about 98 members.   The dam was built to generate electricity in the early 1900's, and just after the completion of the dam the town was flooded.    From what I could find online much of the town was torn down and relocated as were parts of the church.  The graves in the small graveyard were relocated as well.  You can r

Restaurant Review...Eddie's on Lake Norman, Mooresville NC

One thing I love about travel is trying new restaurants.  Cindy and I found ourselves on an adventure in the Mooresville NC area near Lake Norman.  There is nothing like enjoying a meal by the water and when we read that Eddie's was on the water we decided to give it a try.  Off we went... Eddie's on Lake Norman Here is a quote from their website. "Eddie Lubic and Ann-Margaret Wagner bring their hospitality and restaurant expertise  from New York to the shores of Lake Norman."  View from our outdoor seating... Sadly it did not get the best reviews on Z omato , but for the view and casual dinning I would go back. The staff was friendly and service was good. Winkler Bakery in Old Salem NC

WINKLER BAKERY 521 SOUTH MAIN STREET Constructed 1800, restored 1968 One place Gale and I knew we had to visit was the bakery in Old Salem.  I have enjoyed the Moravian cookies over the years but everyone has told me I had to try the sugar cake. Look at all the temptations....Yummy:-) A bit of history.... The sugar cake was amazing.  We took it back to our room and enjoyed the yummy sweetness in front of the beautiful fireplace in our room.  We also shared a bottle of local wine.  What a lovely day:-) Happy Travels Everyone!
