Curtain Calls and Wine Wishes in North Carolina Sept 2018

I love the performing arts, and I love wine.  I thought I would look ahead into Sept and find some shows and wine events in my area of North Carolina that I would like to attend.  I wish I could attend every event but as my mom used to say "If wishes were horses then beggars would ride," another quote she used to throw around was "champagne taste on a beer budget."  I can dream though and sometimes dreams do come true.

Curtain Calls

*Sept 15 at the Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh the NC Symphony is playing
 "The Music of Queen"
*Sept 16 in Raleigh is the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra Fall Pops Concert
*Sept 22 you can go to a dinner theater where you become part of the event.  
It's called Tony n' Tina's Wedding and it held at The Glenwood in Raleigh
*Sept 25 at DPAC in Durham you can enjoy an Evening With Sarah McLachlan
*Sept 28-30 the Cary Players are putting on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat in Cary NC
*Sept 30 you can go see Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons at DPAC in Durham

Wine and Food Wishes
*Sept 22 you can attend Uncorked Wine and Rail Pairing Experience in Bryson City NC
*Sept 22 is the Taste Carolina Wine Festival in Greensboro NC
*Sept 28 there is a Parking Lot Party at Taylor's Wine Shop in Raleigh
*Sept 29 is The Lost Colony Wine and Culinary Festival - Grand Tasting in Manteo NC

Interesting NC Tidbits...The Town of Buffalo NC is at the Bottom of Lake Lure.

A few weeks ago I took a trip to beautiful Lake Lure located in my state of NC.  Little did I know that there was a town called Buffalo under the Lake Lure waters.   I met a lady at a local restaurant that told me the town remains as it was, completely preserved under the water, an underwater ghost town.  On the Lake Lure pontoon boat adventure I took, I was told that Buffalo was burned to the ground just prior to the flooding. I went online to see what facts I could find about the town of Buffalo. Buffalo was a farming and mining community.  The population was approximately 150 people.  There was a church called Whiteside Valley Church of 1918 that had about 98 members.   The dam was built to generate electricity in the early 1900's, and just after the completion of the dam the town was flooded.    From what I could find online much of the town was torn down and relocated as were parts of the church.  The graves in the small graveyard were relocated as well.  You can r

Restaurant Review...Eddie's on Lake Norman, Mooresville NC

One thing I love about travel is trying new restaurants.  Cindy and I found ourselves on an adventure in the Mooresville NC area near Lake Norman.  There is nothing like enjoying a meal by the water and when we read that Eddie's was on the water we decided to give it a try.  Off we went... Eddie's on Lake Norman Here is a quote from their website. "Eddie Lubic and Ann-Margaret Wagner bring their hospitality and restaurant expertise  from New York to the shores of Lake Norman."  View from our outdoor seating... Sadly it did not get the best reviews on Z omato , but for the view and casual dinning I would go back. The staff was friendly and service was good. The Hickory Nut Gift and Antique Shop in Chimney Rock NC

While exploring Lake Lure and the surrounding area I discovered a unique and inviting gift shop.  The name of the shop is  The Hickory Nut .   I drove past this shop several times while exploring the area.  On my final day, I decided I would regret if I did not stop in for a visit. I was glad I did! As you can see from the photos there is something for everyone. From my overview of the shop I found seasonal decorations, plants, home decor, antiques,  crafts, and endless gift items.  The address of the shop is 215 Main St, Chimney Rock, NC 28720.  It is located on the main road between The town of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village.  The phone number I found for them if you want to check hours is 828-625-2211.
